• Lower bout: 20.8

• Stop length: 19.5

• String length: 32.8
Description
Spectacular one-piece back of maple with shell figure. The arching rises to 15,8 mm and falls quickly into the fluting.
The ribs show horizontal flame orientation. Following Italian tradition, the upper and lower bout overlap the C-bouts, and the linings are set in at an obtuse angle. A natural knot is present on the upper left rib. Toothed-plane marks are visible in the C-bout area. The rib corners are carefully chamfered and finished in black.
The scroll is made out of plain maple and is carved symmetrically in the Stradivari manner. The chamfers are partially blackened.
The spruce top shows very regular annual rings (width of 1.5mm). The arching is full (16,8mm) and broad in the central area. The f-holes are cut vertically into the arching; the lower wings are deeply fluted.
The purfling of both top and back is notable for its plasticity and slight irregularities, with elongated black ”stings” at the corners.
The varnish is transparent, of a warm reddish-brown color over a golden ground, with antiquing and patina enhancing the natural texture of the wood. The rib chamfers and scroll chamfers are accentuated with a subtle blackening, in the classical Cremonese manner, enhancing the clarity of the outline.
The instrument bears its original label and the maker’s stamped logo on both back and top, in addition to a handwritten signature on the upper inside of the top.
